The Prefab Messiahs - Devolver
Where do I even begin with this album. Kris from The Prefab Messiahs sent me this as a submission a while ago and I just never got around to checking it out until very recently. Some of you may have heard these guys from that 7" that came out on Almost Ready Records early 2011. Both tracks are excellent gunk punk songs and would fit right in with any of the modern day gunkers trashing it up all across the world recently. The only problem with that release was it left you wanting to hear more and didn't show the true variety that TPM have unleashed on Devolver. This collection of songs ranges from 1981 to 1983 and shows the band evolve from lo-fi drum machine punk songs like Beyond All That and the cover of 13th Floor Elevators to tracks like The 16th Track which sounds like Tame Impala meets Mi Ami covering the B-52s or the song Prefabedelia that sounds like it basically inspired the sound for the band Naked on the Vague. This collection of songs is the equivalent for this site of the feeling a noise rock fan gets when they finally check out Sonic Youth or a krautrocker hearing Hawkwind for the first time. That realization that the band you've always wanted to hear stopped playing before you even knew you were looking for them. Don't make the same mistake I did by passing this up for even another day. And the holidays are coming up so go over to Burger Records and buy a copy of this for yourself and everyone else you know.

The Koreatown Oddity - No Health Insurance
This is the hip hop album all you lo-fi fans have been waiting for. It's exactly what it should be. Good lyrics, real rapping, and beats that sound like they've been thrown away, recycled, re-constituted and then recorded to a 4-track over a bootleg 504 Boyz tape. Personal, minimalist, hand-made packaging to make the whole thing that much grittier. Buy it. Enjoy it. Love it.

Ketamines - You Can't Serve Two Masters
Ketamines are back with a new album and have picked up right where they left off. The band was great enough to send me an advanced download of the new stuff to check out and I couldn't be happier. Staying true to their mix of 60's tinged bubblegum pop and lofi weirdo rock. Keeping a strong 90's feeling floating throughout and pumped fuel of drug addled sing-a-long choruses that'll be stuck in your head for weeks to come. There's even a throwback to Teenage Rebellion Time off of their first album, though this time it's revisited as Spirit Rebellion TimeIf you dig the Ketamines sound like I do, then finding a favorite track is tough because it's just one fucked up gem after another. Do yourself a favor and buy this album when it comes out. Can't share a full link yet but here's a song from the new album to keep you wanting more until the album drops. Enjoy.

Jaromil Sabor - Marmalade Sculpture
I received a submission a while ago from a 20 year old named Jaromil Sabor. He lives in France and plays some pretty great, interesting pop music. Now, that's the simple review. But really...this album is pretty amazing. It has hints of psychedelia, pop, indie, all kinds of stuff. This is one of those albums that's just really good music. Makes me think of those Lasso tapes that came out last year. It features a bunch of guest musicians here and there to add to the overall sound. It just sounds like an album made with a love of music. Really impressive stuff. Highly recommended.
